Wish mom Kim shared with us the power of her son’s wish to visit Great Wolf Lodge and have a huge bucket of water dumped on him!
Wish kid Lucas’ wish to visit an epic water park was more than just a trip for his family. It was a chance for renewal, growth and a new determination. It set in motion not only a new inspiration for Lucas, but new purpose for him mom, Kim, as well.
It took Kim five years to get pregnant and just four months into that pregnancy she found out that her child, Lucas, would be diagnosed with Spina Bifida along with other conditions. But to Kim he was perfect.
“He may not be textbook perfect but he is exactly what God made him to be,” she said.
Finding out about Lucas’s diagnoses was a sobering moment for Kim but she relied on God, her family and friends, who were with her every step of the way.
A friend referred Lucas for a wish from Make-A-Wish Mid-South and wish mom Kim let Lucas decide on his wish when we was old enough to determine just want he wanted. “It was well worth the wait, because he still talks about it almost every day,” Kim said.
Lucas was 10-years-old when Make-A-Wish granted his wish to go to Great Wolf Lodge in California to have the giant bucket of water dumped on his head. Kim described the moment Lucas set his eyes on the 10,00 gallons of water…the bucket of water that would eventually fall onto Lucas. She said all the excitement in the world was shining through his eyes.
Lucas’s favorite part of the trip was visiting Medieval Times, were he was pronounced Sir Luke. Although Kim’s favorite part was his reaction to everything he had the opportunity to experience.
“He has never felt more special in his life. Everyone really bent over backwards to make Lucas’s wish come true, every day of the trip was really something special,” she said.
Kim shared how seeing her son enjoy himself, knowing it was all about him and that they were a part of it meant the world to them. Kim shared that throughout the wish journey everything had something special that pertained specifically to Lucas and that has made a lasting impact with he and his family.
The most impactful change Kim noticed was how Lucas came back from his trip thinking he could do whatever he set his mind to. She said that he is always going to have restrictions but this was a chance to make it all about him, with no limitations on what he could do.
Wish mom Kim is now currently a wish granting volunteer for Make-A-Wish Mid-South.
“Being able to be on the receiving end of the wish is what inspired me to give back. Seeing how blessed my child was through this experience, I wanted to be able to give that to someone else’s child,” Kim said.
