How the CARES Act Impacts Charitable Giving for 2020:
To help non-profits withstand the economic impacts of COVID-19, the US Government has expanded the charitable deductions for the 2020 tax year:
- Allows all taxpayers (whether they itemize or not) to deduct up to $300 in cash giving
- For individuals, raises the cap on annual giving from 60% of adjusted gross income to 100%
- For corporations, raises the annual limit from 10% to 25% of taxable income

Hello from Make-A-Wish Mid-South,
We’re all living in unprecedented times. We’re inconvenienced. We’re uncertain. We’re scared. We don’t know what tomorrow may bring or what next week looks like; and, that’s a very hard reality to operate in. But it’s the reality of many wish families long before this global pandemic.
For many wish families, travel is continually challenging and often not an option. It’s a burden to pack, haul and prep medical supplies. And medical care and routines can look really complicated away from home.
For many wish families, germs are terrifying. Giving hugs and shaking hands is off the table. Being in spaces with sick people can be dangerous.
For many wish families, life is continually disrupted and they have to navigate a new normal. Hospital and doctor visits, changes of plans and cancelled events. It’s all often a moment away for families caring for children with critical illnesses.
For many wish families, any virus can be the difference between life and death.
Long before this scary pandemic, there were so many around us who have been, and are more so now, very deeply impacted. When families are in that uncertainty and fear, Make-A-Wish Mid-South comes alongside them with the hope of a wish.
It’s in times like these that we get to see the amazing stars shining all around us. They are the incredible men, women, children and organizations who have joined forces to be the light in dark times. The champions for children fighting critical illnesses.
Together, they’ve granted more than 6,000 wishes to Mid-South children in our community who need the hope of a wish. And that hope often provides these sick kids with the boost they need to fight harder and often overcome their critical illnesses.
No matter who we are or where we come from, we can all agree that every child deserves a childhood. Current travel restrictions and precautions are impacting about 30 wishes every day. And it’s very costly to reschedule and re-plan wishes.
Should you feel compelled to donate to Make-A-Wish Mid-South, we’d be so grateful. More than $0.82 of every dollar donated goes directly toward a child’s wish. You can also give on Make-A-Wish Mid-South’s Facebook page. Or use this toolkit to start you own online fundraiser.
Make-A-Wish invites you to come alongside wish kids to help them reclaim their childhood. By helping grant wishes, we can give these children hope today, so they can look forward to tomorrow.
