The day Katie's wish came true, she thought she was attending a dog fair at the Agri-Center in Memphis. She was so surprised when she was met by service dogs from Retrieving Independence, the organization training and providing her dog.
When Katie sees a dog, she instantly lights up. She loves dog, and they love her, which made her wish to have a service dog, the perfect wish for her.
Katie lives with a seizure disorder, which requires around-the-clock-care. Having a service dog will mean that Katie always has a caregiver by her side to roll her over if she has a seizure, open doors for her, pick up or carry items for her and be her companion.
Katie's wish is giving her more than a dog. He is optimism on four legs. And he will be the reason for Katie's new-found independence.
Her wish for a service dog will change her life for the better, and it all is happening because of a wish.
Getting a service dog can sometimes take years to receive, but because of Make-A-Wish® Mid-South, Katie's wait time is substantially shorter. And that means more time to just be a girl with her dog.
