A Make-A-Wish experience helps kids feel stronger, more energetic and more willing to battle their life-threatening medical conditions.
Being diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition drastically changes life for wish kids, and for their entire family. For thirteen-year-old Cassy, being diagnosed with glioblastoma changed life for everyone around her. Doctor's appointments full of tests, procedures and treatments became the way of life for Cassy, all while trying to balance school, being a big sister, daughter and friend. Being part of a close-knit family gave Cassy the support she needed to fight an intense battle.
Cassy's wish was to see the Alaskan frontier with her family. The day her wish was revealed, Cassy was surrounded by her family - her parents, brothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins were all there to see the wish experience unfold.
A Make-A-Wish staff person watching the wish reveal take place shared this: I always love to see the faces of the entire family as they watch their child learn their wish has come true. I noticed Cassy's grandfather with a handkerchief, wiping tears away from his eyes. It was very powerful to see him so moved by something for his granddaughter. I later learned that he would often attend treatment with Cassy and sit with her. It was then that I realized this was a dream come true for him as well.
Cassy and her family are supporting the Mid-South Chapter's Season of Wishes campaign. "Thank you so much for thinking of us and allowing us to help in any way we can. Cassy is so excited. We were truly blessed to have a wonderful wish together and make long lasting memories as a family," said Cassy's mom, Joanna.
